2016 Hyundai Tucson: A Compact Crossover on the Rise

The Hyundai Tucson has always been a bargain for many shoppers and has been given a reputation of being an SUV that makes a great choice for those on a very limited budget.  As it begins its third generation in existence, Hyundai is hoping to change this reputation by offering an all new SUV that still comes at a great price but has a decent amount of power, shows up with great style, and had excellent fuel mileage to answer all the questions asked and be a first choice for more buyers who felt they were settling on this SUV before.

As an all new crossover for 2016 on one of the first things you will notice is the larger size of this SUV which is a huge benefit of the new style and platform.  This SUV also boasts a new look that is both more attractive and stronger than before.  Hyundai has put in a lot more technology items and safety features in order to make an SUV that is much better than ever before.  Add in the excellent ten year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty and you will have a new crossover SUV you can feel confident driving and understand it will give you years of great driving.

Speaking of the driving, the ride in the Tucson is more comfortable than before.  The larger size allowed Hyundai to add quite a bit more insulation to the vehicle to ensure it is much quieter in the cabin than before.  A new suspension adds a more confident and composed ride than before which teams up with the improved steering system that is more dynamic and responsive than ever before.  You will certainly find the Tucson to be a great ride that gives you plenty of fun on the road and makes for a smoother, more comfortable ride than ever before.

In order to really enjoy the ride there has to be at least respectable power under the hood.  While neither of the two engines in the Tucson are highly powerful, they can both really get the job done.  The base engine is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder that comes in with 164 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque.  This engine and the six-speed automatic transmission are carry overs from the previous generation and make for a respectable 23 city/31 hwy mpg in the FWD model and 21 city/26 hwy mpg in the AWD version.

The second engine is the new one for the lineup which gives you a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with 175 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque.  This engine gets mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission which together brings in fuel mileage of 25 city/30 hwy in FWD and 24 city/28 hwy in AWD.

When you get a crossover SUV like the Tucson you expect a price in the $30,000 range, but the Tucson starts at the SE model with a price of $23,595 while the Eco will as for just over $25,000.  The Sport trim comes in right around $27,000 to begin and the Limited edition is the first to reach to the $30,795 range.  The AWD will add $1,400 to any model and extras certainly cost more as usual.

What do you get for the money?  The standard features offered include a backup camera, 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, a five-inch touch screen, a six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth connectivity and USB and auxiliary inputs.  The Eco model adds the more powerful and efficient engine, roof rails and LED daytime running lights.  The Sport adds the blind spot monitoring, heated front seats, push button starting and power liftgate with proximity open feature.

When the Limited trim level is chosen the Tucson offers leather seating, LED headlights and taillights, a chrome grill and door handles, a power passenger seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an upgraded infotainment system with an eight-inch touch screen command module, a 405-watt/eight-speaker audio system and Hyundai’s Blue Link 2.0 smartphone interface.  You can even add the Ultimate Package to this model and receive ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, lane departure warning, a panoramic sunroof, rear parking sensors and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.

The Tucson can be the SUV of choice at many levels.  As you can easily see the Limited model can really be very close to some of the luxury models on the market withal the great features.  You and your friends and family will love having some great adventures in the awesome SUV that is on the rise; others better watch out.
