Nearly every state allows the testing of some autonomous vehicles on their road provided these vehicles are equipped with human controls that can easily take over when the car begins to perform in a manner that’s not in accordance with the laws and rules of the road. This allows companies to collect data and know how often the human driver has to take over, but if the vision of most companies for autonomous driving is to offer vehicles that don’t need human controls to allow for the corrections needed, they have to be able to test their vehicles without human drivers.

Most of the time manufacturers send out notices to owners of vehicles with recalls because of their responsibility to have all recalls taken care of on vehicles they’ve produced. A recall could relate to items that fail over time that shouldn’t or to the overall safety aspects of the vehicle. Leave it to BMW with all their many series of vehicles to create one that doesn’t fit anywhere. We have SUVs, but the X4 is not that, we have CUVs and it certainly isn’t that either. We even have SAVs with takes the utility out of the equation, but BMW is adamant the X4 is something else entirely. At BMW the X4 is called a Sport Activity Couple or SAC and it makes perfect sense. While the size of this vehicle is only slightly larger than a hatchback the style does invoke the feeling that it may just be a coupe that’s on a platform.
