When you buy a car that you’re going to drive and enjoy for the performance it provides you probably want to make a few modifications right away. As much as many might think the first thing to do is to add more power to a vehicle that’s not always the case. You might want more horsepower to gather more speed when driving straight, but if your car is destined for the track there aren’t any straight tracks out there where you’ll drive for any length of time. This means power isn’t the first thing you should add to your car at all, but there are some important upgrades you can make to give you the power and performance you want. Engineering Explained actually has an excellent video on the topic.

Technology Improvements for the High Riders
While many automakers put new tech in their sedan and coupes of the past, the fact that the SUV and truck segments of the market are so strong has led many automakers to change their thought process and begin to put new and interesting tech into the trucks and SUVs that we know and love. Why should the higher riding vehicles be left out of the conversation when it comes to new tech? They shouldn’t be left out at all and now that we’re deep into the 2017 model year, you can see some of the tech that’s being admired on these vehicles.
A Decade in the Making; Traffic Could Get Better Soon
The need for change is upon us. We now have more drivers on the road than we’ve ever had and now we want to have the benefit of improved technology that will make it possible to communicate in a new way. A New Transmission from Collaboration
General Motors and Ford got together and created a new ten-speed rear-drive transmission that’s an amazing feat of engineering and automotive technology. Ford was the leader in the creation of this transmission and the pair are putting this new drivetrain into vehicles from both brands for the future. General Motors will be the lead on the new front-drive transmission, which will be a nine-speed automatic. What you need to know about this new collaboration will make you want to pick up a great new vehicle with this awesome transmission in place after you learn more about it.
What Do You Know About Tires?
Tires are the part of your vehicle that’s actually making contact with the road. Because of this, the tires you choose for your vehicle are the most important part of your driving experience. For most of us the all season tires are what we need on our vehicle that’s our daily ride, but what about when you want to go to the track or head out in the wilderness? What type of tires should be on the car you drive when you want the most performance from your vehicle? Not every tire is right for every situation, but you can have the tires, as well as rims and wheels, you want on the vehicle you drive.
Using Tracks to Make Driving Better in Europe
Racing has been part of our world since the beginning of the automobile. Because Europe has been such an integral part of racing and is home to most of the supercars that we admire any visit you make to Europe should include at least a cursory visit to some of the greatest race tracks on the continent. If you haven’t made your plans for a European race track tour just yet it may be time to begin. Along with a visit to any of these amazing locations you should try to attend a race or even take your rental car out on the track if that track allows you to.
Yet Another GM Recall
GM has had some of the largest recalls in history, most recently the faulty ignition switch recall that affected millions of vehicles around the world. Unfortunately they now have another recall that must be issued, the good news on this recall is that it won’t take long to fix because it only involved updating some software that’s meant to ensure vehicles are made safe. This recall does have to do with the safety of the GM vehicles which makes it a recall that we need to take seriously and if you happen to have one of the affected vehicles you need to have your vehicle updated right away.
The Argument Continues
The discussion between which type of engine is better continues to loom onward. Some love their naturally aspirated engines that are pure power and only tuned to what they want while many have fallen for the turbocharged boost that you can now have on smaller engines. The benefits in fuel efficiency are obviously going to favor the turbocharged engines and the fact that you can get more power out of smaller engines is certainly admirable as well. There’s still nothing quite like the instant power that a pure engine gives you on one that hasn’t been boosted in any way.
Protecting a Car from a Hurricane
The recent occurrence of Hurricane Matthew left many people across several states without power, with flooded homes and cities and downed a ton of trees and limbs. The damage that can be done when a tree falls on a vehicle, a home or across a fence is horrific and it can be worse when life is at stake. In order to protect property and people from potential harm many brought items into their homes to avoid them from becoming projectiles during the storm or from being the target of flying objects or falling trees that could potentially destroy property.
Not Your Ordinary RV
The idea of taking the family on a fun RV trip around the country appeals to many of us. Having a place to sleep at night that has air conditioning and can be parked at a variety of campgrounds around the country is the way to see the country from the road as you ride high above and see what this beautiful country has to offer. While the romance of being able to sit high and ride with a huge steering wheel and vehicle at your control sounds great, thousands of miles of right lane, slower speed driving doesn’t sound like a lot of fun at all.
