Spy photos of the Jeep Recon EV appear to show a vehicle near production with only a few areas still camouflaged. The possible production model looks very similar to the concept, but the interior is much more modern than the Wrangler. The Recon still includes removable doors, short overhangs, and all-terrain tires.
2025 Recon EV Debut On the Table
Jeep has released no new details about the new Recon EV, but it’s expected to hit your local Jeep dealership sometime in 2025 with a starting price of around $60,000. The spy photos don’t show anything that marks the boxy vehicle as a Recon, but it looks awfully close to the concept pictures of the Recon that were revealed a few years ago.
It will likely be a few more months before Jeep reveals the official first look at the production Recon EV. However, the Recon was initially compared to the Wrangler, and it’s easy to see the differences now. The Recon is clearly heavier and has a boxier shape. The AWD electric powertrain should be more powerful than the Wrangler as well.
Another difference is that the Recon will feature a fully independent suspension, which should help ride quality but obviously won’t be as sturdy as the Wrangler’s solid axles. The Recon is still outfitted with plenty of body armor and short overhangs to make climbing over obstacles easier.
Cutting Edge Interior
Finally, the interior of the Recon looks good. It has more of a modern look vs. the Wrangler, with a streamlined center console, separate digital displays, and a squarish steering wheel. There are still some physical buttons in the Recon’s interior layout, but most of it appears to be digital. Some of the physical controls include a rotary gear selector and a toggle to disconnect the anti-roll bar.
When the Recon concept was revealed in 2022, Jeep mentioned that removable glass would be a feature. It’s not clear whether that’s true in the spy photos. However, the Recon does show off a retractable soft top and a side-hinged tailgate with a rear-mounted spare. It’s clear that the Recon does intend to riff off the Wrangler’s appearance and vibe.
Jeep Recon EV Highlights
The Jeep Recon EV is ultimately inspired by the Wrangler 4xe, and it shares many of the same features, including its boxy shape, power-folding rooftop, and removable doors. However, it’s meant to appeal to a different type of buyer, considering its independent suspension and modern interior. Details on the Recon’s price, range, and power output haven’t been revealed yet.
The Recon is expected to have seating for five people and offer five trims starting with the base Sport model, which is likely to start around $60,000. The range-topping Sahara High Altitude is expected to start for a price of around $79,000. However, these are all educated guesses as nothing official has been released about the Recon’s pricing, trims, or production date.
When can you expect to see the Jeep Recon EV at your Jeep dealership? The answer to that is also unknown, but it’s likely to be around the middle of 2025.
