Nissan Announces GT-R EV Will Be the First to Feature Its Solid-State Batteries
The 2024 Nissan GT-R is the last of the automaker’s infamous sports cars to hit US markets, so drivers are contacting dealers left and right for Nissan price and build specs. Many are sad to see the ICE version go.
An equal number of drivers are excited to hear about Nissan’s new electric sports car, which is now in development. Whether the automaker calls it a GT-R EV or rebrands the line remains to be seen, but that’s essentially what it is.
Last Year’s Hyper Force EV Concept
Last October, Nissan unveiled its Hyper Force EV concept car, offering a first view of the GT-R’s electric future. The most exciting part? The automaker has announced that the GT-R EV will feature a solid-state battery that produces over 1,000 kW of power.
For reference, 1,000 kW of power is roughly equivalent to 1,300 hp. The most powerful EV currently available in the United States, the Tesla Cyberbeast, produces up to 845 hp, or 621 kW. The difference will be astronomical.
Regarding aesthetics and aerodynamics, Nissan developed the vehicle’s exterior with the help of the NISMO racing team. Minor changes from the current GT-R, such as a two-tiered front lip and rear diffuser, should improve efficiency and aerodynamics.
Solid-State Batteries Will Be Game-Changing
Nissan calls its plans to switch to solid-state batteries in its EVs game-changing, and experts agree. The novel technology will allow the automaker to pack twice as much power into half the space, making it an obvious choice for EV sports cars.
Ivan Espinosa, Nissan’s global VP of product planning, has hinted that the electric GT-R currently in development will be the first of the automaker’s vehicles to feature the new solid-state battery technology. The announcement isn’t official, but the concept shows a blurred GT-R logo.
The new battery technology won’t just increase potential power output thanks to its doubled energy density. Solid-state batteries will also reduce charge times.

It’s not yet time to start a Nissan price and build for the GT-R EV. Nissan doesn’t plan to introduce the electric GT-R for some time. The automaker plans to launch EVs with new solid-state battery technology by 2028.
