The Chevy Silverado EV will see some changes as it enters its second year. Find out what to expect from this Chevrolet commercial truck.
Battery Options and Other Updates
Though it was introduced for the 2024 model year, this electric Chevrolet commercial truck is already getting some noteworthy updates. Let’s go over what contractors can expect.
Three Battery Options for the Chevrolet Commercial Truck
The most essential change is that the entry-level Chevy Silverado EV Work Truck (WT) will have three variants, each with a different battery size. The WT continues to be a capable but fairly bare-bones vehicle perfect for local contractors.
The 2WT will feature a Standard Range battery, the 5TW will have an Extended Range version, and the 8WT will have a Max Range option.
The 5WT and 8WT will replace the 2024 Silverado EV 3WT and 4WT trims. Buyers should note that the 2WT Standard Range battery is actually smaller than the 2024 model’s power pack. The automaker has yet to release exact specifications for the smallest battery.
As a reference point, the 2024 Silverado EV 3WT has a range of 393 miles when fully charged, and the 4WT trim has a rating of 450 miles. For most contractors, even the smallest battery should have sufficient range to make this a solid Chevrolet commercial truck.
Introduction of LT and RST Trims
The 2025 Chevy Silverado EV LT will be the most affordable consumer-focused trim level. Contractors shouldn’t worry. The LT will have capabilities similar to those of the WT. The primary difference is that it will have a more premium interior and some exterior style upgrades.
Some drivers may note that the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV already had an RST First Edition. However, the non-first edition RST trim will have less standard equipment but more exterior and interior color options.
So, is it worth upgrading to a higher consumer-oriented trim level from the WT, intended to be a Chevrolet commercial truck? That depends. Contractors who want extra comfort and luxuries may find it’s worth the upgrade, but there aren’t any substantial powertrain changes.
The Same Powerful Underpinnings
All versions of the Chevy Silverado EV use GM’s Ultium battery and Ultium Drive motor technologies. With a dual-motor setup, the 3WT puts out 510 hp and over 600 lb-ft of torque. The 4WT gets a small hp boost to 515.
Built on the GM BT1 platform, this Chevrolet commercial truck will continue to provide plenty of power. Buyers who are on the fence about electric vehicles will find that it has everything required to get the job done without sacrificing power or performance for efficiency.
Furthermore, the Chevrolet Silverado EV production will soon move to GM’s Factory Zero plant in Michigan. Production of the 2025 models will begin on September 3rd, 2024, making the EV eligible for relevant tax breaks.
Interested buyers can contact their local Chevrolet dealers to learn more about the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV WT, LT, and RST. Now is the time to start placing pre-orders for the next model year.
