Not all new high-end cars make good used ones, so buyers should balance the desire for luxury against the need for reliability and affordability.
They won’t have to compromise with a used Hyundai Genesis or any of these five great affordable luxury used vehicles.
Ride in Style Without Breaking the Bank
1. The Genesis Offers the Best Value in Used Luxury Cars
Buying a used Hyundai Genesis is the easiest way to get the best of both worlds regarding luxury and value. Older models are available for under $20,000 but aim for a 2015 model or newer.
This generation features a more upscale interior than its predecessor and more specs. Expect heated and cooled seats, an intuitive infotainment system, and a Lexicon audio setup.
A used Hyundai Genesis from 2015 comes with two choices of engine. The base models get a 3.8L V-6, but drivers who are serious about performance can upgrade to a 5.0L V-8 with an impressive 419 HP. Both come paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
2. The BMW 5 Series Comes With a Pedigree
Drivers prioritizing status over comfort or performance might want to check out the BMW 5 Series. The 2019 model is the first to eschew the sports styling and prioritize more luxury.
Buyers on a budget can find base-model BMW 5 Series starting from $23,000. They just shouldn’t expect to get all the extras at that price. The more powerful engine options, including the 3.0L turbo, are only available in higher trim levels.
3. The Audi A5 Is a Luxury Coupe
Finding a luxury coupe is more challenging than finding an upscale sedan because there are fewer options. The Audi A5 is arguably the best of them. However, buyers may need to turn back the clock a few years to get a good deal.
The base-level 2013 Audi A5, for example, offers a good value for the money. Powered by a 2.0L I-4 turbo, it puts out 211 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque, which isn’t as much power as the optional engine upgrades. However, it’s plenty of get-up-and-go for a fun daily driver.
4.Buy a Mercedes-Benz E-Class for an Upscale Cabin
Mercedes-Benz is one of the top brands in the luxury car segment. While it’s hard to find a recent-model Mercedes on a budget, older E-Class sedans are more affordable yet still luxurious.
For those who want it all, the 2012 model year produced an E-Class lineup with timeless upscale cabins outfitted with luxury materials, plus sporty handling and a range of engine choices. The twin-turbo 5.5L V8 cranks out an impressive 516 HP but also raises the price from the base model.
5.A Used Lexus LS 460 Will Be Reliable
Like Mercedes-Benz, Lexus is a well-known brand for a good reason. The automaker’s LS 400 line is luxurious, powerful, and, above all, reliable.
From 2012 to 2017, the LS 460 featured a potent V8 for plenty of power, plus an opulent interior and technology that was ahead of its time then and holds up well today. Just don’t expect the same emphasis on driver assistance features found in today’s cars.
Getting behind the wheel of a luxury vehicle doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Try any of the five described above for a good deal.
