A new Cadillac Escalade IQ has been spotted, bringing a massive battery pack to the full-size luxury SUV market. Could this be the largest EV yet?
When the Toyota Prius first arrived, it was important for this small hybrid to be as light as possible and offer excellent aerodynamics to increase fuel efficiency. The new electric Escalade is about as far from the first Prius as you can get. This new Caddy could be the largest EV yet, using a massive battery pack and forgoing any hope of aerodynamics. This new Escalade seems to be exactly what GM is going for; big, opulent, and filled with luxury goodies.
Is this the biggest GM EV?
When the GMC Hummer EV hit the market it took our breath away and showed off with massive size, weight, power, speed, and driving range. The new Cadillac Escalade IQ is even bigger. While this new Caddy uses the same battery pack as the Hummer EV, the vehicle itself is bigger. The Escalade is longer and wider than the Hummer, providing a build that makes the large 24-inch wheels look like they fit perfectly underneath this incredible luxury SUV. Could this be the new Escalade you want to drive?
This Cadillac EV has good driving range
One of the greatest attributes of the new GMC Hummer EV when it appeared is the impressive driving range. The new Escalade offers up to 450 miles of range on a full charge. This is pretty cool, considering the size and weight of this massive beast. This doesn’t work out to be extremely efficient, but most EVs haven’t breached the 400-mile driving range yet. The IQ platform also includes 800-volt charging which means recharging can be done quickly. At a Level 3 fast charging station, you can add 100 miles of driving rang in only ten minutes.
The electric Escalade is powerful
Similar to the Hummer EV, the new Cadillac Escalade IQ offers excellent power numbers and a fast sprint speed. This electric SUV has a dual-motor layout to provide 738 horsepower and 785 lb-t of torque during the drive. This is more than enough power to send this massive beast to 60 mph in less than five seconds.
You might not expect a vehicle the size of this electric Cadillac to be maneuverable, but if we’ve learned anything from GM, they have a few tricks up their proverbial sleeves. The Escalade EV can maneuver well thanks to the all-wheel steering which reduces the turning radius to make this large SUV easy to drive and turn.
Will you go Low Ride?
Cadillac offers something interesting in this new SUV to make it unique and fun. The Escalade IQ has a new “Low Ride Mode” which drops the suspension to its lowest position and allows you to ride along at low speeds. If you love to cruise along low and slow, this mode is perfect for you, and it makes the Escalade look great while showing it off around town.
Escalade excess exceeds expectations
The Cadillac Escalade IQ continues the theme of this SUV being one of the most luxurious and opulent in the entire market. The interior theme is of excess, offering features and elements that prove this SUV is part of the upper class of driving. The dashboard features a massive OLED screen, covering 55-inches of the front area. There are other screens in the rear when the Executive Second-Row Seating package is added to the mix. This gives each rear passenger a 12.6-inch display screen. Th third row features a power-folding function to make it easy to put this rearmost seat down to open more cargo space.
Is this new Escalade right for you?
GM might offer some new EVs with new names, but the current focus is in building electric versions of the vehicles we know and love. The new Cadillac Escalade IQ is packed with goodies but comes at a price of $130,000. This might be a reasonable price considering what’s included in this new electric SUV. Will this new electric Escalade set a new standard for high-end driving in the luxury SUV market?
This new Escalade is scheduled to be added to the market for the 2025 model year. As we come closer to that release date, we’ll learn more about the various trims and additional features GM has planned for this new SUV. The electric extravagance continues to present itself in the GM family, but this new electric Escalade could be the new choice of celebrities and well-heeled heading to black-tie events in the future.
