What upgrades would we like to see in the new 2024 Toyota Tacoma? This new model takes us into a new generation of the most popular midsize pickup truck.
When Toyota improves the Tacoma, we pay attention. There have been several rumors and expectations surrounding this new midsize truck. Will The new Tacoma offer a hybrid powertrain? Could we see an all-electric version in the future? Does this new model add a new off-road trim? These are all questions we want to be answered, but we won’t find the answers until the new Toyota truck arrives. Here are some items we’d like to see in this new pickup.
The new Tacoma should be a towing champ
Some of the competing midsize trucks not only offer new off-road trims but increased towing capacities. The Ford Ranger tows up to 7,500 pounds, and the Chevy Colorado reaches 7,700 pounds of towing. It would be great to see the tow rating of this new Toyota midsize truck reach as much as 8,000 pounds. Currently, this pickup can tow up to 6,800 pounds, which puts it on the lower end of the spectrum. All we need to see is an improved engine and suspension system.
A better base engine would be great
The base engine for the current Toyota Tacoma is a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder model that makes 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. That’s fine for a subcompact car, but terrible in a truck. We expect the 2024 Toyota Tacoma to offer more power across the entire trim range. The Colorado uses an engine sourced from the Silverado, which allows it to have more than 300 horsepower at every trim. Could the new Tacoma reach these power levels? Hopefully.
We want to see better fuel economy numbers
The base engine of the current Tacoma is good for 20 city/23 hwy mpg, making this truck one of the most fuel-efficient models in the market. If the current Toyota trend continues, we will see a new hybrid powertrain in the Tacoma, which would make this new pickup even more efficient than it is right now. This would certainly be appreciated. Some rumors tell us to expect a version of the i-Force Max engine found in the Tundra.
This new Tacoma should be a driving pleasure
Another quality we see in more modern trucks is better driving dynamics than in previous models. The hope is that the new 2024 Toyota Tacoma will offer improved suspension and steering settings while also delivering less body roll. Most trucks offer a harsh ride quality when rolling over large bumps in the road or out on the trails. A smoother on-road experience would certainly improve the drive for owners of this new Tacoma when it arrives. These new driving features should be offered across the range.
We should see a design refresh from Toyota
The Tacoma always brings us a rugged, tough, and impressive style that makes it one of the most attractive pickup trucks offered. This impressive truck should continue to deliver the drive and performance required to make us smile when we see it in our driveway. An upgraded design with new colors, improved LED headlights, a redesigned grille, and larger wheels would do the trick. Toyota does a great job of making the Tacoma look right; we expect this to continue for the new model.
Go big with the infotainment screen
The same touchscreens found in the Toyota Tundra should also appear in the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. This means a standard 8.0-inch model for the lower trims and a larger 14.0-inch screen for higher trim levels. In addition to increasing the size of the infotainment screen, a more advanced system would also make a lot of sense in this new Tacoma. Could a more user-friendly interface become part of the mix for this truck? These improvements could put the Tacoma ahead of some 2023 pickup trucks.
We’re looking for better materials in the cabin
Gone are the days of basic vinyl bench seats in the front of any pickup truck. Today, we see bucket seats, large consoles in the center, and improved materials. This means you should see some models with upscale leather, while lower trims could have high-end fabrics. Other aspects of the cabin in this new truck should be power seats, dual-zone automatic controls, heated seats, and maybe a massaging function at the highest trim levels.
Will the 2024 Toyota Tacoma deliver the goods and bring us some upgrades that will make it a modern truck with the classic appeal we love?
