Are you getting ready for a weekend adventure? Do you have a spot picked out or a campsite booked where you can go this spring or summer to ride ATVs or get out on the water? Well, before you head to the ATV dealer to pick up your side-by-side or four-wheeler, make sure you have an SUV that can tow it. Take a look at some of the best SUVs for towing.
The Ford Expedition
The Ford Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds. Power for this full-size SUV comes from a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 gas engine with 470 pound-feet of torque. To maximize your towing power, you’ll need the heavy-duty trailering package, but even without the package four-wheel drive models can tow up to 6,500 pounds. Ford makes it even easier and safer to tow with its Trailer Backup Assist system, which adds a knob to the dash that allows you to steer the trailer in the direction you want it to go instead of trying to figure out which way to turn the wheel.
The Dodge Durango
The Dodge Durango is a mid-size SUV with full-size SUV towing power. It can pull up to 8,700 pounds, which is impressive for its size. Even the entry-level trim with the smaller six-cylinder engine instead of the V-8 can tow up to 6,200 pounds. If you want to max out towing power, make sure to get the 6.4-liter V-8 engine, though. It comes with the SRT 392 or the SRT Hellcat.
Another way you can get the most towing power out of the Durango is to get the R/T. It uses a 5.7-liter V-8, and you need to get the Tow n’ Go package.
The Chevrolet Tahoe
Another large SUV that has impressive towing power is the Chevy Tahoe. It can tow up to 8,400 pounds with the 5.3-liter V-8 engine and rear-wheel drive. If you prefer all-wheel drive, towing power maxes out it 8,200. Which is plenty if you’re going to an ATV dealer for some new toys to tow. Make sure to get the Max Trailering Package with the upgraded cooking radiator.
Some other handing towing aids come with optional packages for the Tahoe. An in-vehicle trailering app, a blind-spot monitor for the trailer, and a tire pressure monitoring system for the trailer tires are all available.
The Nissan Armada
The Armada can tow an impressive 8,500 pounds and you don’t have to add a towing package to get to this number. It’s the standard tow rating. The Armada also has some helpful extras as standard features, such as an auto-leveling suspension, a trailer hitch with a seven-pin connector and Nissan’s Intelligent Around-view monitor. Choose a higher trim, such as the SL or Platinum trim, and you’ll get trailer sway control to help prevent excessive trailer movement.
So, when you want to go to the ATV dealer to get your four-wheeler for your weekend adventures, these are some of the SUVs you can get to tow it wherever you want to go.
