The top three models that retain their resale value the best are all Toyota models that play in a bigger sandbox than most vehicles in the market.
In today’s market of smaller vehicles, hybrid powertrains, and a move to electrification, it might not sound practical to buy a big vehicle, but if you want resale value, that’s what you’ve got to do. According to Kelley Blue Book, three impressive Toyotas hold the most value compared to the rest of the market. Let’s see which vehicles they are and how they fit into your world.
The Toyota Tundra holds its value the best
Although resale value is a prediction based on a five-year period of ownership, it’s a pretty safe bet to think that the Toyota Tundra will continue to maintain its value for a long time. This truck was redesigned for 2022, adding a hybrid powertrain and an impressive V6 to replace the outgoing V8 model. This truck is expected to retain 73.3% of its value over five years. The Tundra came into its new generation with more than simply smaller powertrains; this truck has a slew of great new features, including a new Capstone trim which challenges the luxury pickup truck market.
The SR5 model of the Tundra is the most popular choice. This version is one step up from the base SR model, and it gives you a tow package, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, cargo-box adjustable tie-down cleats, three driver-selectable drive modes, and a tow-haul mode. You’ll also find a trailer brake control and rear-seat center armrest, which are not part of the SR version. The SR5 also opens up some options to make it easy to enjoy an off-road-oriented version of this full-size Toyota pickup truck.
The Toyota Tacoma comes in second
That’s’ right; it’s a sweep for the Toyota trucks at the top of the resale list. The Tacoma is one of the most popular Toyota models in the market. Even with new and returning midsize trucks to compete with the Tacoma, this midsize Toyota has continued to be the top-selling model in the market. The Tacoma is predicted to maintain 66% of its initial value after five years, which puts it in a tie with the Tesla Model X for this value category. Currently, this midsize truck is getting a little long in the tooth, but a redesign is scheduled for the 2024 model year, giving us a fresh new version to enjoy.
Similar to the Tundra, the most popular model of the Tacoma is the SR5. Some might say it’s the TRD Pro, but the SR5 is a step up from the base model, and it opens the doors to several options packages, and features without being an expensive truck to drive. The SR5 trim adds improved exterior trim, rear tinted windows, fog lights, a power-sliding rear window, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and remote keyless access. You’ll also find an 8-inch touchscreen and the option of a V6 engine for more power and capability in this Tacoma.
How much value does the Toyota 4Runner hold?
A few models fall between the Tacoma and 4Runner in terms of overall resale value. The Tesla Model X ties with the Tacoma at 66%, the Ford Bronco achieves 65.4%, and the Chevrolet Corvette is predicted to hold 65.3% of its initial value. The next of the Toyota models for resale value is the 4Runner, and it offers a predicted resale value of 64.4% after five years. That’s pretty strong, especially when you consider the 4Runner is a body-on-frame, rough-riding, off-road machine.
In keeping with consistency, we’ll look at the SR5 model of the 4Runner. Unlike the Toyota trucks, the SR5 trim is the base model for the 4Runner. This version delivers the good with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lights, skid plates, heated power outboard mirrors, and a windshield-wiper de-icer. You’ll also find keyless entry, push-button starting, cruise control, a power rear liftgate window, an 8-inch infotainment screen, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity. This impressive SUV is rough around the edges, but it has everything you want when it’s time to tackle the trails or get stuck in traffic during your commute.
Suppose you’re looking for a vehicle that offers impressive levels of resale value. In that case, it’s a good idea to look at the Toyota models, especially the Tundra, Tacoma, and 4Runner, which all place in the top ten for this category.
