During the next few years, we expect the entire electric vehicle market to expand to include a full range of every type of vehicle we have now. This not only means small hatchbacks, which probably won’t last but new SUVs and trucks powered by nothing more than an electrical drivetrain. Will the Ford F-150 Lightning be the Truck You Drive?
The F-150 Lightning has already hit the market and gives many drivers the drive and power desired. As more consumers get used to the limited driving range of the electric powertrain, we expect this truck to bring more of what we need in the trucks we drive. The Lightning offers you an affordable price, starting around $40,000 and moving up from there. This pickup brings standard 4WD with a motor on each axle. Power comes from a 98-kWh better pack with the option of an upgraded 131-kWh unit. The longest driving range offered is 300 miles on a single charge. This truck brings enough power for towing and payload while quickly becoming one of the most popular choices in the half-ton pickup market.
The Chevy Silverado EV Might be the Ideal Pickup
Right now, we only have a couple of the electric trucks that will hit the market over the next few years. One of those new models is the Chevy Silverado EV. This pickup is much more akin to the current Silverado than the GMC Hummer EV that came out late last year. The new Silverado EV isn’t quite as traditional as the Ford F-150 Lightning, but it does bring the 4WD build and plenty of driving range to compete in this market. We’ll see some unique features in this new truck when it arrives. Will you make use of the midgate feature, which is ideal for cargo hauling that you want to enjoy with this Chevy truck?
The Tesla Cybertruck Promises to be an Interesting Addition to the Market
The Tesla Cybertruck looks like something from the future. You see this pickup and almost expect it to take off like a spaceship. Of course, it’s actually a truck, and it’s one we’ve been waiting no for a few years already. When it finally arrives, the Cybertruck should hit the market with a price point that puts it in line with other trucks. Can this Tesla make good on its promise to tow up to 14,000 pounds, offer a 500-mile driving range, and be one of the most unique trucks to ever hit the market? We won’t know until it arrives, and that is still in question. Maybe you should look at some of the other trucks on the list.
Not Quite the Same the GMC Sierra EV Heads to the Market Soon
Typically, we think of the Sierra and Silverado models to be exactly the same, but these two electric trucks won’t be exactly the same this time. Both have similar items and designs but aren’t the same trucks at all. Expect the Sierra version to be more luxurious and pack the qualities that put this truck in a higher class than the Chevy. That said, we expect this GMC truck to have up to 400 miles of driving range and give us upscale qualities that make it a pleasure to drive. If you’ve got quality on your mind, the new GMC Sierra EV should be on your radar.
Will the Lordstown Endurance Capture Any of the Truck Market?
When it comes to brands and names that we don’t know, entering the truck market is one of the hardest places for a brand to compete. We’ve seen established brands fail in the pickup truck class, but that isn’t stopping Lordstown. Initially, the Endurance will be a fleet vehicle offered only to companies that need a fleet of work trucks. The Endurance is capable of 250 miles of driving range, can tow more than 7,500 pounds, and uses a 109-kWh battery pack to enjoy up to 600 horsepower. These trucks are limited to 80 mph, which is much more than the current speed limit on any road in the country. Currently, there have been many delays in building this truck, but it could be an early model for 2023.
Don’t Leave Out the Ram 1500 EV
If Ford and GM have their electric trucks, it’s not much of a stretch to expect an EV to come from the Ram brand. We don’t know a lot about this new Ram yet, but the brand has told us they intend to put it out for the 2024 model year, and it should have more power and driving range than any other half-ton truck in the market. This new pickup should bring a 500-mile driving range and tow more than 10,000 pounds. We might find this new model usies ultra-fast charging and offer autonomous driving features to make it one of the most useful trucks in the market. Could this Ram take over the electric pickup class? We’ll find out in a couple of years.
A New Toyota Tacoma EV is On the Way
How can the variety of Tacoma pickup trucks expand? The only way would be to add more interesting powertrains. The Tacoma will join the slew of electric trucks entering the market over the next few years. We don’t have the sales date or power figures for the new Tacoma yet, but we have seen renderings of what this truck might look like when it arrives. Will the next midsize truck you drive be an electric model that delivers the drive you want to enjoy? Could the Toyota Tacoma EV become a pickup that you want to show off to your family and friends when it arrives?
