Are you in the market for a pickup truck that can handle the demands of your busy life? With so many manufacturers throwing their hats in the pickup truck game, it can be hard to determine which model is meant for the toughest jobs and which ones are more show pony than a work horse.
While it might seem like going with a heavy-duty truck is the best way to get the power you crave, HD trucks are typically best suited for commercial and professional drivers. For the everyday driver, there are several options from your favorite brands that are perfect for your everyday needs.
Here are three trucks that offer epic power:
The Ford F-150 Raptor
Everyone is already familiar with the popular and powerful Ford F-150. A new or used Ford Raptor is pretty much an F-150 on steroids. It has a bulkier body, a stronger powertrain, and offers great capabilities on more terrains.
The Ford Raptor is equipped with a potent 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine that pushes out a solid 450 horsepower. The engine is paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission that pushes the truck’s power to either an AWD or 4WD drivetrain. There are a few rumors around that the Raptor might get an updated version of the Mustang’s 760 horsepower supercharged V8.
If you want to save some money on this beast, look for a used Ford Raptor. Even a used Ford Raptor can tow more than the standard F-150. The Raptor has a max tow rating of 8,200 pounds and a max payload of 1,400 pounds.
Ram 1500 TRX
If you’ve ever wanted to feel what it’s like to drive a monster truck but don’t know where to start, the Ram 1500 TRX will do the job. The TRX model takes the regular Ram 1500 to an entirely new level of capability.
The TRX is equipped with a 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine that pumps out a killer 702 horsepower. This powertrain helps the supped-up Ram go from zero to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. Even with a massive engine and heavy body weight, the Ram TRX is surprisingly easy to control on the road.
The TRX can’t tow as much as some other models, but it can easily handle a max tow rating of 8,100 pounds. It also offers a max payload rating of 1,310 pounds.
The GMC Sierra 1500
While some brands have to make special editions or trims to provide true power to their drivers, GMC’s Sierra 1500 is a workhorse at its core. A recent refresh makes this popular pickup truck as luxurious as it is powerful.
The Sierra 1500 comes with four different powertrain options. At the top of the list is a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 420 horsepower. If you’re after torque, the 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine option is the way to go. It offers 460 lb-ft of torque.
When properly equipped, the Sierra 1500 can tow up to 13,200 pounds and has a max payload of 2,240 pounds. This is truly an everyday workhorse.
