GMC has been a brand we admire for its ruggedness, for the capability offered, and for the upscale qualities that are part of the models offered. We often forget about some of the exciting and fun vehicles that have worn the GMC badge, but if you’ve been longing for the GMC Syclone, you’ll be glad to know that one company is bringing this truck back. The Syclone was a 1991 mid-size Sonoma pickup truck that was turned into a muscle truck to give us a vehicle that had plenty of power for the performance that we love to enjoy when it’s time to head out on the road for a drive.
The Original Syclone Impressed Us
The model that was offered in 1991 was a heavily modified truck that brought you a 4.3-liter V6 engine with a turbocharger, intercooler, and modified internals to bring you the power you wanted of 280 galloping horses under the hood. This engine also produced 350 lb.-ft. of torque and the engine was attached to a four-speed automatic transmission while also giving you AWD and four-wheel antilock brakes. The truck rode low and looked like it was going to race past anything in its past which it could with a 4.3-second time to reach sixty mph and a 13.4-second time to complete a sprint for a quarter-mile run.
The Syclone is Revived for 2019
There’s a recent following in high-performance pickup trucks and the team at Specialty Vehicle Engineering has decided it’s time to revive this name and bring back a number of them. There will be 100 new GMC Syclone models built by SVE that will be based on the current GMC Canyon to give us a modern application of power and performance in a truck that can race at higher speeds.
The Build of the SVE GMC Syclone
SVE is using a 2019 extended-cab version of the Canyon to make the 100 models it will offer. The engine is a 3.6-liter supercharged V6 model that has a custom cat-back exhaust system to give you 455 horsepower for the drive. This truck will be offered with either RWD or AWD and it will have upgraded brakes and an improved chassis for the drive. The suspension has been lowered two inches in the front and five inches in the rear while also offering you stiffer traction bars and a larger rear anti-roll bar.
More Choices for the New SVE Syclone
The original version of this truck was only offered in black, but SVE will allow any of the standard Canyon colors to be chosen. The appearance is customized with rocker-panel extensions, a body-color gill and rear bumper, and a composite hood insert. The interior of this truck receives embroidered logos and badges along with a numbered plaque on the dashboard. These new Syclone packages can be ordered at a number of different GMC dealers to give you the performance truck that will be right for you to have the ride you want.
