One of the most anticipated models to come to the automotive market and the worst-kept secret is the Jeep Gladiator midsize off-road pickup.
This impressive truck showed up in Los Angeles for the Auto Show with the ruggedness of the Wrangler and the usefulness of a midsize pickup truck blended together. This truck is being billed as the toughed model in the class, and considering its underpinnings, it might be difficult to argue against that point and win the discussion.
The Jeep Capability You Expect in a Pickup Truck
As expected, the Jeep Gladiator will bring you the off-road credentials and capability you desire. This truck is expected to handle towing a trailer of up to 7,650 pounds and carry as much as 1,600 pounds worth of payload in the bed. The off-road items you’ll see and admire include a set of Dana 44 axles that make the Command-Trac or Rock-Track 4×4 systems work the right way. Check out the electrically locking differentials, a disconnecting sway bar, and 33-inch tires that can be used for off-road fun. This truck is even made to forge through as much as three feet of water.
The Bed of the Gladiator is Impressive
While the bed offered for this new truck is only five feet in length, it’s a steel box that features under-rail tie-downs, an external 115-volt power outlet, and even gives you the option of a spray-in liner to help you keep this bed area looking good for many years. This is a bed that’s strong and ready to handle the job of carrying the load you need to take with you when you fill it with the items you want out in the wilderness.
The Power of the Gladiator
The familiar power for the Gladiator will come from the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine that we’ve known for many years. This engine gives you 285 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque while making use of either an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. There will be more torque offered when the new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine makes its way to the market to give you 260 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is expected to be offered for the Gladiator and the Wrangler at some point in the 2020 calendar year.
The Trims You Can Choose from Jeep
The new Jeep Gladiator pickup truck will be offered in four different trims to give you the options you want. These trims are Sport, Sport S, Overland, and Rubicon. The Rubicon model will be equipped with a forward-facing off-road camera to give you enhanced performance when you head out on the trails to enjoy the drive on the dirt and trails in your area. This new truck will arrive in the second quarter of 2019 to give us a new midsize truck to choose from and one that’s already going to have the off-road qualities that make it the right choice.
