Hellcat Fun Redefined in the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

As FCA has worked on a regular basis to find a great way to have the ability to put the Hellcat engine under the hood of whatever version of their models they choose, the most recent vehicle to benefit from this impressive engine is the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. This is a large SUV that can be perfect for a family to have the ride you want on the road, or the fun of an amazing ride out on the track when it’s time to have a drag race.

Because the team at FCA has chosen to offer us this impressive SUV as the one that has the most power in the Jeep Grand Cherokee lineup, a particular question has come up and finally been answered with the Hellcat models, like the Dodge Charger and Challenger, that are offered from FCA. With this in mind, the Hennessey team took out their video cameras and shot a film of a pair of the models that have this incredible engine under the hood to give us the power desired for the drive.

The Drag Race Ensues

When you check out the video below you’ll see the pair of models at the track, ready to show off their power, you might not realize right off the bat that the two are powered in a similar fashion. Of course, with the new 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk having this new engine under the hood, this is one of the two models, while the other is the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody. These two vehicles are powered by the incredible 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that delivers 707 horsepower for the drive. The Challenger is tuned to 650 lb.-ft. of torque while the Trackhawk gives you 645 lb.-ft. to be nearly identical.
When you think about these two vehicles and how they will take off and make it to the end of a drag race, you would expect the Challenger to be the faster because its smaller and lighter. What will surprise you is the fact that the Trackhawk is faster off the line and is able to create enough of a lead to be the faster of the two during this race. The reason for this is the fact that the Trackhawk has an incredible amount of traction from the tires to get it going faster with the standard AWD setup.

What’s Next for the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk?

Hennessey will likely give us another look at the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk when we see what this model will be as they do their usual magic and tune up this model to offer as much as 1,012 horsepower and 969 lb.-ft. of torque. While the need for this amount of power isn’t clear, the fact is Hennessey will make this change with the inclusion of the HPE1000 package that will give us what we want for the drive on the track or on the roads for the ride you’re looking for when it’s time to drive.
