The 2020 model year will signify the fourth generation for the Ford Escape which is one of the most popular compact crossover SUVs on the market. This SUV has been on the market since 2001 and in that time it’s only been changed to a new generation twice. Because Ford is ready to put their eggs in the proverbial SUV basket, this could be one of the most important upgrades offered from this brand in a long time. Thankfully, this is one of the favorites among the compact SUVs and it should continue to be an excellent model for Ford.
Making the Ford Escape Ready for the Next Step
The next step for Ford is to build its SUV lineup to be priced similarly to the sedans that underpin these vehicles and offer us the ride we’re looking for when we shop for the SUV we want. The Ford Escape is an example of that and it should be redesigned to be part of the solution going forward. Let’s look at some of the details needed for this SUV to be ready for the new look of the Ford Market.
Why Does it Make Sense for the Escape to be Upgraded?
With the death of cars in the market and the plan to move away from these vehicles, Ford is looking to its best-selling SUV to make sure it can be the one to carry the brand forward. The prediction by Ford is that crossovers and trucks will make up more than 86 percent of the market in the future. The Escape already enjoyed sales of 308,000 models in 2017 to be the best-selling SUV in America and one that can be the right choice as we look to the future of the automotive world.
Is there a New Platform for the Ford Escape?
The current model is built in the C1 platform which is shared by several FWD Ford models, but the new 2020 model will likely make use of the new global platform that’s being created for the Focus Active. This platform hasn’t been named, but if the Escape uses this new build for the vehicle, it will likely be lighter, more agile, and more efficient than the model it replaces. This new architecture could become the one that underpins new hybrid or plug-in vehicles as well to ensure you can have the drive you want.
How Will the New Ford Escape be Powered?
There is going to be a hybrid model along with a plug-in version that will make a difference for us when we drive. There’s a good chance both of these models will use the 48-volt secondary electrical system to be more efficient on the road. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine will finally be deleted and a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a 2.0-liter turbo will both be offered to give the power and efficiency needed to make sure you can enjoy the drive you want when you choose the Escape as the right model for you.
