As the newest member of the Ford lineup, the Edge ST is an SUV that brings us more power for increased performance and potential on the road to ensure you can have the fun and active driving that will be a ton of fun for you. This new version of the midsize crossover that we love and enjoy on the road is making use of a powertrain that will likely make its way to other areas of the Ford SUV market to give us more of what we’re looking for when it’s time to have the drive desired.
The movement toward using performance engines in smaller vehicles has become a movement that we admire and enjoy when it’s time for the ride we’re looking for. We see several different brands offering sub-brands for our enjoyment and the Ford team could offer the ST moniker as their own sub-brand in the future. With this in mind, we’re expecting to see a new Ford Explorer ST model in the near future to give us the power of the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine under the hood that could make 400 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque.
Adding to the Experience
The addition of the ST engine will give the Explorer a total of four engines to choose from when this is the SUV you want to drive. The current lineup brings you a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a 3.5-liter V6 which will be replaced by a 3.3-liter V6 in the future, and a hybrid variation for the drive. The next version of the Explorer will make sure you have what you need and many of these engines will be attached to the ten-speed automatic transmission that’s already being used in the F-150 and in the Mustang.
If you feel like the ST engine is one that’s familiar, it’s because this engine is currently being used in the Lincoln Continental and MKZ models, making it an engine that’s built to handle the ride desired. In the Explorer, this engine will certainly offer you more power and performance for the fun and quality ride you need when it’s time to head out on the roads and trails around your area in the Explorer that will give you an amazing drive. This is certainly a version of the Explorer that can be a lot of fun and offer you the excitement and power you’re looking for.
An RWD Ford SUV
The new models of the Explorer will ride on an RWD platform and make use of the new CD6 architecture that’s being used in the Chicago Assembly Plant. This will make the new Explorer lighter and more active for the ride you want when it’s time for the drive. This SUV is expected to continue to use mostly steel body panels, but don’t be surprised if we see the F-Series influence in the next few years with more aluminum being added to the mix to give you a lighter ride wherever you need to go.
