In a world where every car has a new class and it feels manufacturers are trying hard to have vehicles that can easily fit into a variety of categories I’m not sure what a normal car is anymore. If we define a normal car as one that looks like it should be made for driving on the commute to and from work then we still have a large variety, but for the most part we all know what a normal car is. What we don’t know is that some of these cars are made to be exciting to drive and are capable of turning even the stodgiest of us into an enthusiast with a huge smile on our faces.
BMW 228i – As the least expensive and certain starting point for the brand those who are familiar with the higher numbers of BMW and the M variants can scoff at the idea of driving the 228i. For the rest of us who have never driving a BMW, this is a great way to become familiar with the brand and the driving dynamics without breaking the bank and without taking on more power than we can foreseeably handle. What we can enjoy is the driving dynamics and sure balance of the car that will make us want to look for a higher model BMW in the future.
Ford Fiesta – While we know the Fiesta ST is a lot of fun to drive and is one of the best hot hatches on the road today, for some the base model with the smaller engine is a perfect car for some fun. Many hatchbacks are made to be enthusiastic because they have a short wheelbase and low weight which makes the small engines easy to enjoy. The Fiesta that comes with the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine is one you will find to be a great drive and make you want to be aggressive with the quick steering and easy maneuvering.
Honda Civic – This new version of the Civic is a car that is awesome to drive. It’s a good thing too because the outgoing model was a bit of a dud, but this new one appears to be aggressive and enthusiastic no matter the powertrain to bring back the fun that has been part of the charm of the Honda Civic for nearly four decades, letting us have a car that is great on gas and on fun; what more could you want?
Jeep Wrangler – Although Jeep as a brand and FCA as accompany tend to rank low on many lists, this is still the king of the outdoors. The off road ability of a Wrangler is perfect for the drive over rocks, sand, gravel, dirt, mud and any combination you can find in the outdoors. Find a remote location and the Wranglers will get you there and back with ease. Before you know what hit you this vehicle will have won your heart and have you looking for the right kit to make it a lifted model that can handle even more off road action.
Mazda3 – Most of us admire the Mazda6, but the Mazda3 is a smaller version of the same with a dynamic ride from the suspension and steering and an engine that is ready to go. This is a car that is happy to take on curves and turns to twist and wind its way around a canyon wall or make a quick run to the store for some milk. When you get behind the wheel of this car you can feel the smile cross your face as you get to driving and learn what driving is supposed to be about; fun.
Mini Cooper – The charm and look of the Cooper make it an instant winner for any heart. This car is cool and cute at the same time while it offers a small engine to give you the fuel mileage you want to have to enjoy the drive between fill ups. This car is fun to drive, offering you several features you wouldn’t expect to find on a car of this size and price and with the enthusiastic but small engine and instantly responding steering you will enjoy the ride in this car not matter how hard your day has been.
Nissan Juke – The Juke has a unique look and feel. The style of this subcompact CUV is one of what an artist’s rendering of what fun on four wheels looks like. There is character everywhere on this vehicle, inside and out. There is also room for you to bring a few friends along and make this a party vehicle that has a presence of acceptance when you pull up at the club or head out to the ballgame. With a variety of funky colors, the Juke can pull off any look and be the right vehicle for you to remember what fun is all about.
Subaru Outback – The Outback is one of those vehicles that doesn’t look like it could be fun but it really is. This vehicle appears to be a small SUV or a lifted wagon, we aren’t quite sure which, but it is a full on AWD off road ripping beast that can take you where you want to go and show you the world in a vehicle that has the manners of an off roader but the drive of a sedan that is made to feel confident and controlled in every environment.
Volkswagen GTI – The standard Golf is a lot of fun, but this GTI adds more power and performance with the wide stance of this hatchback that has all the brashness and quickness hatchbacks are known for. No wonder this car is so popular around the world, it’s a perfectly balanced drive and excellent performer on the road. You can’t just drive this car from your origin to your destination, it has to be taken on an adventure, of which I’m sure you will gladly oblige once you get going to the destination of your choice.
