Over several years of Super Bowl ads we have seen a lot of different ways manufacturers have tried to present their products in a way that would entice us. Some of these ads have amused us, others have touched our hearts to bring us close to tears and others have simply entertained and informed us. The point is every company that is part of an ad campaign that has been given some of the time for this big game has presented us with some form of a polarizing ad to make sure we would remember the company.
Hyundai has some of the time during the Super Bowl and one of the commercials features Ryan Reynolds, but that one is more of a cute commercial with the Elantra driving through it. The seriously polarizing commercial from Hyundai might just offer you something that will make you cringe instead of being amazed, even if the message is one of genuine effort to improve the world. This particular commercial is not meant to show off products that will make us amazed, at least not until the end of the full sixty second spot, which is a huge part of the advertising for the Super Bowl.
In this commercial we see the life of a boy from birth to manhood. We get to follow him as he is faced with choices that seem familiar to all of us including a setting in a college library late at night alone getting ready for the big test. While the scenes in the commercial, such as sitting around a campfire looking across at a pretty girl, are familiar to us, what isn’t familiar is the highlight of the commercial that will either make you cringe or give you the feeling of understanding, either way this is probably the most polarizing offering of the big game.
From the very beginning we see this baby that grows into a man with an engine attached to him. This engine is not just attached, its where his heart would normally be, and it is exposed out of his chest with a bring blue light coming from it. Not only is this an engine, but it’s a V8, which might seem odd in a Hyundai commercial since most of the engines from this company are not of this size. Even though that little detail can be overlooked, the engine poking out of the chest cannot be.
What is the point of this commercial? The vehicle that is being portrayed at the end of the commercial is the Vision G Coupe concept which is a car that may be part of the future for Hyundai. Overall, this is an amazing way to show us what this car will be, when it comes out of the concept phase to become a production model that we can all enjoy. Until this car does come out of the preliminary phases to be a car that we want to drive, we get to enjoy the commercial to see what we think of the message Hyundai is presenting, which for some of us may seem a bit creepy.
