When you take to the task of building a kit car it’s hard to know what is going to come out of it. Yes the creations can be unique at the core, but most kit cars are boring, barely offering any power and usually poorly designed; that is unless you are Ferris Rezvani and the kit car you create is called the Beast. This is no typical car that comes out of several boxes (some assembly required) instead it appears Rezvani has his heart set on proving his cars are worth the time and effort put into them.
The beast does appear to have the structure of an Ariel Atom, but beyond that is nothing short of amazing power and performance. The second version of the Beast (the first one was sold to Chris Brown and had 500 horsepower) offers up 300 horsepower. Even though you can get this horsepower in a sedan these days and the number is overall not impressive when matched to the low 1,650 pounds the car weighs this is certainly a power player that can have you firmly planted in your seat with bugs sticking to your toothy smile during the drive.
As recognized the car was built off the Ariel Atom 3 and what is a bit frightening or exciting depending upon how you look at it is the fact this car has no power steering, no power brakes, no traction control and no cupholders. Those features alone make this a driver’s car and not one to take lightly. This car will require all your attention to properly control it on any road and certainly needs you to focus during the drive.
The body of the Beast offers a massive amount of carbon fiber body panels and dash panel and there are special carbon fiber bucket seats and an Alpine sound system inside the car. One way the Beast offers lower weight is the deletion of a roof, side windows and rear windows.
Rezvani took the Atom and stretched out the wheel base to give it a much wider stance to give it a better overall ride. This car is much more relaxed than what it’s based on, which is great considering it doesn’t have the power aids most of us are used to. Even though the ride is more relaxed the drive isn’t necessarily. You are going to feel every part of the road with this car, which is probably a good thing as you can get yourself behind the wheel and be fully engaged in the driving experience.
This car is certainly more livable than the Atom would be, thankfully. It has some great features to let you actually enjoy the ride and looks like it belongs on the streets unlike the Atom. The power for this car is a Honda K24 engine that is connected to a six-speed manual transmission and a Rotrex supercharger. This give the 300 horsepower needed to make the run to sixty mph in only 3.5 seconds. The expectation, at least what Rezvani has unveiled, is the fact they are working on a 700 horsepower Beast X. The car was prided to come in around $145,000, which is really a bargain considering what the car has brought to market.
With Rezvani at the helm we may see another hyper car maker here in the US. By nature he is a designer and loves to see his visions come to life. Who knows, twenty years from now maybe there will be Rezvani models that are of the same quality and brand recognition of the likes of Ferrari or Lamborghini?
