The need for safety on the road is one of the most important features of any vehicle. The fact that we can end up on a collision at any time because of the carelessness of another driver or a spot on the road that was slick or unsafe means we need to be aware of what safety features the vehicles we purchase have aboard and pay attention to IIHS scores. Because the SUV category is only getting bigger many manufacturers are placing more emphasis on these vehicles for safety, creating a place in the cabin where you and your passengers will be able to survive.
Recently the Ford Edge was tested by IIHS and received the Top Safety Pick award. This is a huge accomplishment for this SUV as the Edge has already gained praise for style, build, quality and efficiency, now it can add safety to the list. This certainly makes the Edge, which was already popular with growing families, even more attractive to those families who now know the Edge is going to be able to help keep them alive in the case of a collision. That peace of mind is certainly more than worth any price that can be put on a vehicle.
Not only has Ford built the Edge to have a crumple zone that helps protect the occupants and plenty of airbags to help avoid injuries, but the Edge is built with several driver assistant features to make it easier to avoid a collision of any kind. These features are now part of the grading from IIHS as so many vehicles now come with many of them standard in order to keep passengers safe and allow the driver to easily know what they need to do in order to ensure they can avoid a collision.
The only two negatives in the testing of the Edge, which kept it from receiving the Top Safety Pick Plus award, were the seat-belts which allowed the head of the dummy to move too close to the A-pillar and the lack of automatic braking in the collision warning system, which is necessary for the vehicle to be able to help a driver stop safely. Otherwise the Edge was a phenomenal vehicle on the testing grounds with scores that certainly earned it the Top Safety Pick Award and some bragging rights over others in its class.
The Ford Edge has been a favorite SUV for several years and comes with a style that we have enjoyed and purchased in large numbers. It’s good to know that one of the most common SUVs on the road today is also one of the safest to drive. Certainly Ford will be shooting for the Top Safety Pick Plus award for the Edge for the testing next year, but for now if you choose the Edge as your SUV of choice you can rese easily knowing it is a safe vehicle that will help protect you and your family in case you are in a collision of any type.
