Tires; You Don’t Think About Them Until You Have To

Most of us drive around on all season tires and are more than happy with the results we get. For the most part we don’t even think about the tires on our car until it’s time to check the pressure, which should be done at least once a month, they appear to be bald, or we experience a flat tire. On a performance car the thought process should be different. You need to think about your tires on a regular basis and if you don’t have an alternative set of summer tires you’re missing out. These tires are great for any cars, not just for the high performance models, but they aren’t cheap. Here are some of the best summer tires to give you the grip in the corners you want during the warmer days of the year.

BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Comp 2 This tire took the blue ribbon against many other tires on the market and delivers a traction and control that isn’t matched by many others at all. The G-Force performed beautifully on wet and dry roads to allow you the confidence to drive your car even during the rain. With these tires you do experience higher road noises than on some other tires ,which might take a bit of getting used to. You can find these beauties in the smaller sizes for as little as $89 each but mostly you will pay around $137 each for the larger sizes that work on most performance vehicles.

Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500As the sole tire supplier for the Indianapolis 500 Firestone brought the name of the race over to this tire. This beauty performs well in dry conditions and gives you much less road noise than most of the others and smoother ride. This is a great tire for long road trips as long as you don’t encounter rain along the way. Prices for this tire range from $74 to $150 each and it makes for a great choice when you look to have a tire that will give you the ride quality you want.

Dunlop Direzza DZ102This tire did a great job of offering a comfortable ride and has plenty of responsive turn in to give you the ride you want to enjoy. While not rated as high as the G-Force the DZ102 offers a comfortable ride that is quieter than you would expect from a performance tire that is made to handle the challenges of the cornering on your performance vehicle. The prices you will find for this tire will range from $72 to $140 depending upon the size you need and it will certainly be a tire that won’t let you down when you’re ready to hit the road.

Bridgstone Potenza RE760 SportDuring testing this is the tire that came in rated just behind the G-Force to be a fantastic tire to drive on. This tire is strangely not as popular with customers as some of the others, but it gives you the at-the-limit handling you want and an excellent ride quality to be something of a great performer. The only size limitation is it does not come in 15” sizes, but you can find this tire in a range of prices from $100 to $158 each and have the ride you want on the tires that will deliver the performance you desire.

Kuhmo Ecsta SPTThis is a name you might not be familiar with just yet, but you certainly should be. Based in South Korea this tire manufacturer makes a wonderful high performance tire and sells them at a price you will love. This tire rated well but was a little behind the others when it came to precision handling, but the grip it offered in wet conditions was excellent. This is another tire you can’t purchase in smaller sizes, but it’s the least expensive tire at the larger sizes at $95 each and will give you a great ride that you can enjoy on any road.
