2016 Camaro Convertible

The New Camaro Convertible

After the unveiling in early May we have had over a month to review and fall in love with the new Camaro that will represent the 2016 model year.  As a premier sports car this new fun and flashy model allows us to enjoy the shorter wheelbase and the fact that Chevrolet put some emphasis on the interior of the car and the comfort of those who will be driving and riding in this awesome new power monster that is ready to have some fun and show off as a continued leader in the sports car markets.

The big news now is the look and feel of the Camaro Convertible.  Just looking at it from the outside you can see its Camaro and certainly all power, including the drop top.  That’s right; the Camaro has taken the first step in the American pony cars to having an automatic drop top that quickly and quietly folds neatly under the hard tonneau cover to be tucked away out of sight.  Previously this type of a drop top was reserved for luxury models and even premium player and was more of a weight adding feature that many sports cars stayed away from, but with the new weight reducing technology of the Camaro this feature added a great design element and very little weight.

This new drop top is raised and lowered at the push of a button inside the car or on the key fob.  This allows you to show off in dramatic fashion when you are out with your friends who certainly won’t be able to remotely put their top down or raise it up as they drive away.  This cool feature can be raised or lowered at speeds up to thirty mph making a dramatic entrance or exit onto any scene.

The wheelbase that has been shorted by two inches gives the car a much better handling and control than before.  The overall weight reduction of this new model is more than 200 pounds than before, giving this car a better drive with the amazing power under the hood.  The Camaro benefits from the Alpha- platform even in the convertible and adds stiffness to the frame to make up for the lack of stiffness in the roof.  By adding this stiffness the cowl shake and quivers are gone from the convertible, giving you a ride that is smooth, exciting and handles flawlessly.

Similar to the Coupe, the Convertible will have a choice of three engines and two transmissions.  The transmission choices will be either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.  As for the engines, the base will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder that brings 275 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, the midrange will show up as a 3.6-liter V6 that can make 335 horsepower and 284 lb.-ft. of torque.  At the top end in the SS is the LT1 engine which is a massive 6.2-liter V8 that brings in 455 horsepower and 455 lb.-ft. of torque.  Adding control to the power the Camaro SS will have magnetic ride control to give it a better ride.

As we continue to learn more and more about this longstanding favorite symbol of Americana we get to know a new Camaro that is full of awesome features and is much more driver oriented than ever before.  That is not to say the Camaro has lost a step in performance, because it certainly has not, but now the Mustang will not be the only sports car on the road that makes the occupants a priority.  I can’t wait to see what the next information revealed is along with pricing and certainly will be heading to the nearest Chevrolet dealership when this awesome car is finally ready for sale.
